Jose's Authentic Mexican Restaurant in Petoskey

Finally!! Authentic Mexican food in Michigan!! Reminded me of some of my favorite taquerias in Mexico. Worth the drive

Service was a little slow with only two employees working, which likely wouldn't have been a problem except we went on an extra busy Saturday. The food did taste good. A little more expensive than what I would have expected but that seems to be true around the Petoskey area, so they are probably on par for the area.

José is one of the hardest working restaurant owners I’ve ever met. This restaurant is a Petoskey must-see. I highly recommend the tamal and burritos.

The flavor and passion that comes out of this kitchen is unrivaled in Northern Michigan for latin cuisine. Tamales - Superb, authentic recipe, likely the best I've ever had. I took a dozen home because I knew I wouldn't find better else where.Enchiladas - There's an article posted in the restaurant that highlights how great the enchiladas are. It is not a fluff piece, the enchiladas were incredible.Flan - Delicious flan/cake crossover that was as unique as it was delightful.Service - This family owned restaurant is filled with people who love to bring the most authentic and true to their heritage foods to their community. Northern Michigan is lucky to have such authentic and delicious Mexican food.

Great food and authentic people. Seeing the place in action for five minutes, I was lead to suspect that the husband and wife behind the counter do all of the work to keep this place running, from prepping and cooking to ringing the register and stocking the coolers, etc. One look at Jose in his small kitchen and it's easy to tell this man is happy.It's a bit crowded at meal times, but that's a great sign of good food. The locals are friendly and the food was great. It's far from fancy, but with good comfort food in our bellies, we felt right at home.

Just about the worst overpriced Mexican food if you want to call it that that I've ever eaten. I hate to say it but Petoskey has nothing to offer as far as Mexican food lots of Americanized Mexican food but nothing authentic.

Small restaurant, but they had good tasting food. No alcholic drinks

Jose and co. are all super friendly, do a good job taking orders, and make absolutely delicious tacos. The pork carnitas are definitely the best.

One of the best dining experiences in Petoskey. Good food that is fresh made and, without fail, absolutely delicious. Avocados are sliced into when you order guacamole, and not a second sooner. It's not just the guac, either. EVERYTHING tastes so fresh, each bite tricks your brain into thinking it's peak Bill's Farm Market season, but it's still February.The only thing that would take this meal over the top would be a nice cold Dos Equis amber, or a pitcher of margaritas, but it's soft drinks only. Coke fountain products, and of course Jarritos and Jumex along other bottled offerings like water and lemonade.One of our favorite places to eat in Petoskey. If you get a chance to check out Jose's, take it! You won't be disappointed.

Food so good it makes me wanna cry. Loving the tostadas and tamales. Loving the atmosphere. Loving Jose's.

Not much food for prices nor a lot of flavor. Okay on cleanliness. Ice machine and two flavors of pop were down.

First time visiting, stopped in for lunch. I asked if they could fix me a specific taco salad because of my diet, they were very accommodating. Good food, great service. Authentic taste

This was a really nice place to eat.Service was fast. The cook was very kind and friendly. Good place for Indian Vegetarians, he makes all menu items vegetarian.

We stopped here while on vacation based on reviews. I thought the food was great! The staff was super friendly and helpful. It is counter service, and they bring the food to your table. I’m horrible at remembering to take pics. Ones shows the huge steak burrito. The other shows a messy table which is proof (when you have 4 littles) that the food was good. My favorite were the steak/beef tacos!

Wonderful salsa, great enchiladas and nachos. Small family run. Prompt service. Highly recommended.

Awesome food and exceptional service!! Steak burrito is my favorite!! I need to add to this review. We have been here several times and each time we are treated like returning friends. The food is constantly fantastic!! The place is always clean and inviting. Do yourself a huge favor and order the guacamole, it's made fresh to order!!

Best Tacos I have had in Michigan. No joke. This place may be casual but it is having out some awesome food with amazing service. I had the tacos plate with shrimo, barbacoa, and chorizo. Holy cow. Dying. You gotta come here! The service was amazing and I even got to practice my Spanish.

Pretty good food at an affordable price.

Food was good and authentic like the previous reviews have stated, but we waited for two hours for our food to arrive. For other patrons, they lost their orders and they also had to wait two hours. We arrived at 1:30pm on a Friday, and our food arrived at 3:30pm. There was one cook making food one order at a time. At that point, it doesn’t matter how good the food is. Unless you come here and are the only people here (so that they can work on just your order), I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

The owner was a very nice person and definitely deserves some recognition for how hard he was working. His food was great and if I ever visit Petoskey for lunch again, I'd consider eating there

If I could only eat here once in a week I would eat ramen noodles the rest of the week. Phenomenal!

I really enjoyed my meal here, food was fresh and hot. The owners were so nice. I will return when I go back to Petoskey. Moving here from Texas has really made me miss Texmex...I can’t say it’s that, but it helped.

Jose is an amazing cook. Very personable. The burrito is the biggest meal. But I like his tamales.

Really enjoy this little Lansing gem, great sandwiches and it worked out well as office takeout.

Food wasn't bad but not impressed. The prices are great for kids however the adult food feels over priced. The beef taco is super small. You may need a few to feed your kids. The quesadillas are a decent size for kids and use mozeralla cheese. The fajitas are mostly meat. Most would love that but I like some more pepeprs with mine Store is clean and seems popular since it was very busy on a Wednesday afternoon. The tamales were on point. Very good.

Great authentic Mexican food in downtown Petoskey. Portions could be a little bigger but flavor is awesome.
